In February of 1983, A.J. Foyt had teamed with Bob Wollek, Claude Ballot-Lena and Preston Henn to win that year's 24 Hours of Daytona in Henn's Swap Shop Porsche 935.

In June 1983, Hurley Haywood had teamed with Vern Shuppan and Al Holbert in a Rothmann's Porsche 956 to win the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

So in July of 1983 as I walked down pit road at Daytona International Speedway after a practice session for the Paul Revere 250, an IMSA Camel GT race that ran at midnight (the midnight ride of Paul Revere) before the famous NASCAR Firecracker 400, which used to run at 10 am on the 4th of July, I was thrilled to stumble across the two motorsport legends as they laughed it up on pit road. The drivers were teamed to drive a Porsche 935 in the IMSA race, and I was the only photographer around as the racing giants debriefed with car owner Preston Henn.

The team went on to win the race and my photos of the pit road bull session were amoung my favorites from that year's "Summer Speedweeks" at Daytona International Speedway.

Originally shot on 35mm Black and White film, I mixed in some 21st century AI denoising and colorization.
