Daytona International Speedway-February 19, 1989

After 17 tries, Darrell Waltrip finally prevailed on a cold February day to win his first Daytona 500. Fuel strategy helped DW make it to victory land and Hendrick team mates Ken Scrader and Geoff Bodine came home 2nd and 4th with Dale Earnhardt finishing 3rd to break up the Hendrick party.
