1984 Pepsi Firecracker 400

Daytona International Speedway-July 4, 1984

One of the most celebrated races in the history of NASCAR, with Richard Petty out-dueling Cale Yarborough for the win. It was Petty's 200th career victory and President Ronald Reagan was in attendance for the celebration. As a young "stringer" photographer for UPI, I was banished to turn 4 for the entire race and did not get a huge variety of photos. My online database contains only 18 pictures, but a few nice ones of Cale and "The King" battling side-by-side toward the end of the race as well as some of a young Dale Earnhardt in action. There are also some good shots of Petty waving to the crowd during his victory lap.
